Vacation Discussion Thread
Since this forum doesn't get a lot of traffic, I figured we can use this one for discussions concerning the vacation plans!
So, one of the bigger issues we need to tackle is, where do we want to go?
Suggestions have been (among others): Cuba, Hawaii, Brazil, Carribean Cruises.
Some are possible some are not, but we need to get input. So let's use this thread to just jot down anything that comes to mind that we need to figure out prior to definitive plans.

Cuba would become a Europe/Canada-only vacation. Dem US-residents can't go.

Wow, ok? You want to exclude the Amuricans? So rude.
Edit: I need this signature on Infamous as well, the bouncing pirates are too strong.

Re: Vacation Discussion Thread
It has something to do with the communist revolution there. I told Barba about it, but when I asked Rome, he told me different. Of course he is a dummie head, and so I checked it up on Google, and it's definitely true. Americans cannot go to Cuba. It's forbidden on their side, and on the US side. Sometime after WW2, Cuba tried to stock up a bunch of nuclear missiles to attack US. They got caught red handed, so now the US has a small part of Cuba to keep track of what's going on. Of course, now both governments hate each other, so now no one is allowed to have any fun. The end.Cerize wrote:How come they can't go?

Re: Vacation Discussion Thread
Apparently I have no forum account. *gimme admin!*
Where to start?
I am not in favor for a cruise, mostly because of all the crappy stuff that happened with a certain cruise line in the past year. I also feel like with a cruise you don't get a lot of time to explore whichever island(s)/locations they stop at. I've been told that there are very long lines to disembark the cruise ship and that gets annoying fast. And when you are not exploring around or waiting in line, you're stuck on a boat. D:
So here's a list of suggestions:
My wishlist locations (that I know will be outright rejected due to expenses): Hong Kong(the motherland! <3) and New Zealand (because LoTR, I want to visit the Shire!)
Places in the US:
- Florida: Lots of nice places with beaches (Fort Meyer, Miami) as well as Orlando (Disney, Universal Studios, Sea World, Epcot)
- California: San Fran, Los Angeles
- Hawaii (someone already mentioned here)
- New York: I rather not have a stay-cation, but I can't deny that New York has plenty of things to do. Even if you don't want to stay in New York, you're a drive away from Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut (so Boston, Philadelphia, and Atlantic City) . There are beaches up and down the coast, though personally, I would never go swimming in the Long Island Sound.
Places outside the US:
- London: Always wanted to see the sights there, also fish and chips!
- Paris/France: I went there once during winter, it was rather bleak. Would like to see if it's better during the spring/summer. Also, I want to visit Chateau de Versailles when it's not taken over by shitty sculptures and I have yet to finish exploring the Louvre.
- Italy: I assume there are beaches here? As well as Venice! and good Italian food.
- Greece: I'm a nerd for Greek mythology, I would like to visit the Temple of Athena. Also, working under the assumption there are beaches.

Re: Vacation Discussion Thread
I'm not into places like London, or New York. I'm not a big fan of tourist attractions and such either, my idea of vacation with friends would be a destination where there will be plenty of sleep, laughter, relaxation, food, and sunbathing. You cannot go wrong with these things.
In the US you have to be 21 to enjoy anything. Some of us are still only 20. *Ahem*

Re: Vacation Discussion Thread
I agree on the New York / London thing. Those are places that are nice to visit, but I honestly cannot see myself enjoying a 1.5 / 2 week vacation there, or in the vicinity of a crowded city as such. The Netherlands is crowded enough as is. We're like 2nd most crowded country in the world. I need space, I need room, I need ability to scream out at the sea, ya know?
And who said you would get to drink anything, Krys? We're all very mature and worried adults on vacation, got to look out for the little ones.

Re: Vacation Discussion Thread
So, in general. I think.
Anything that falls North America might be off in that sense because of age restriction issues.
So we're looking at the middle of America maybe in that sense? Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Aruba, Bonaire, St. Martin (I can speak Dutch on Aruba / Curacao / St Martin, hue).
Since most of the people participating will be US or Canada-residents. I think for overal group keeping the costs low that is also something we need to look at. If you guys love to come to Europe, that's fine as well, but financials are to be considered as well. Please look into what possible tickets cost depending on high-season or off-season. I think going off-season is fine, because the core reason of the trip is meeting and having fun together, not necessarily being at place X while DJ Y is doing his/her thing. We can enjoy ourselves when random DJ Z is doing his/her thing as well (per example).
I know most flight tickets alone for Europeans across the sea (regardless of destination Canada/North America/Middle or South) will be over $1000 easily. Just for the flight. So that's definitely something we'll take into consideration as well.
But destination should be our main priority as it is.
That way we can check possible ways of establishment afterwards. Because hotels are options, but so is the renting of a house/mansion/villa in some of these places.
Destination priority #1. Keep em coming. I want to set a date, next week 15 December I start a poll for destinations, so get your 'MUST-BE-CONSIDERED-DESTINATIONS' in before then.

What estimated date are we looking at? If its in the July/August time then it may be a lil hot to go to some destinations. Is a ski trip out of the question?

Re: Vacation Discussion Thread
Well the only times I'm available is mid April to end of August. (University).
I researched that the best time for:
Bahamas: May to November
Puerto Rico: Mid April to June
Aruba: April to August
Bonaire: October to November
St. Martin: May to June
This is based on weather and deals and such.
